File this into the very interesting category. Alaska is rekindling the relationship with American in response to Delta's continued investment in the Seattle market. That's all fine and good, but the main question is how will this affect the unique Alaska mileage program and those nifty niche redemption options? I'm willing to bet that the rates will be re-aligned to the Oneworld chart (i.e. oneway to Asia in F will now be 80k instead of 70k). What is less clear is how Alaska will handle their non-alliance partners. Will Emirates go away? What about the mainland Chinese carriers? That random oddball Condor?
No one knows for sure, but we'll be sure to learn more in the near future.
